Socio-Economic & Education status of the district

Paschim Medinipur is a predominantly rural (87.78%) district in West Bengal with a 2011 population of 59.13 lakh, focusing on agriculture and forestry. The district has a 78.44% literacy rate and 64.74% labor force participation (2023-24). While Midnapore and Ghatal are developed, western blocks face lower socioeconomic status, with significant Scheduled Tribe (Santhal) and minority populations (12.91%) requiring targeted development.

Narayangarh block of this district, exhibits moderate to high socio-economic development compared to other blocks in the district, with a rural-based agricultural economy, significant SC/ST population, and growing educational infrastructure. While showing higher literacy and lower disparities than western parts of the district, it still faces challenges related to livelihoods, particularly among tribal communities.

Our teacher education institution Bhagabati Devi PTTI is located in this Narayangarh block. Since 2003, our institution has been able to take very small steps towards the economic, social and cultural development of this marginal area of the block.
